At the age of 33 and with 17 of those years dedicated to professional soccer, Gareth Bale announced his retirement from the game. His final club was in Major League Soccer, at LAFC, in his only tournament played there turned him into a champion once again. This after accolades aplenty at Real Madrid, where he settled after coming through the ranks at English clubs Southampton and Spurs.
NBA-LE: could it be?
His farewell was appropriate, leading Wales to the World Cup in Qatar, but after not advancing from the group stage, where the USA took its place, the man known as the “Cardiff Express” has decided to hang up his boots.
As we know from that fateful misquote, “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order,” (sorry, again!) Bale’s love for another sport has never been hidden. But as well as his skills on the pitch and the course, he’s also said to be rather good on the court, playing basketball. And for this reason, the National Basketball Association has taken the opportunity to release a video of Gareth shooting hoops in a challenge. Is this an invite for the Welshman to join their league?
