Basketball fans have questioned the officiating done by the NBA referees this season many times. Even players like Stephen Curry and LeBron James, who are known for their cool and collected attitudes, were aggravated by the referees’ judgment. Kevin Durant, too, slammed them for a poor technical foul they posted on Jayson Tatum. The NBA world has adjudged the game to be “soft” after a recent call. Some claimed that “they are destroying the game“.
During the New Orleans Pelicans (25-17) and the Boston Celtics (30-12) match-up tonight at the TD Garden, the Celtics won 125-114. However, there was a technical foul called on a Pelicans player that was challenged by the NBA fans.
NBA fans fed up with the referees
Jose Alvarado received a technical foul in the third quarter. Reason? For allegedly pointing his finger at Luke Kornet. The NBA Twitter went into a meltdown shortly after the incident.
Alvarado himself was shocked and confused at the call. He seemingly could not understand the reason behind the call. What prompted the referees to give him a foul? Alvarado had driven the ball to the paint, finger rolled it in, and pointed his finger at Kornet who had attempted to block the shot.
Alvarado finished the game with 9 points, 1 rebound, and 3 assists in 22 minutes of playing time.
Other questionable calls this season
Kevin Durant described this specific judgment to be “the worst tech I have seen in the NBA in a while“. Jayson Tatum was issued a technical foul…for clapping. Tatum was visibly frustrated and got even more confused after the call.
Stephen Curry and his team, the Golden State Warriors, have been getting poor calls in their direction. Curry himself was given a technical foul for a “display of frustration“. He has been given a slew of them this season, which even enraged Steve Kerr at one point. Curry got another foul, for cheering on a teammate from the sideline.
Ja Morant got ejected for talking to a fan last month. Just a few days ago, LeBron James looked annoyed at the referee’s call on receiving a technical foul. He made sure that they knew he was displeased.
This NBA season has been riddled with very many questionable calls. Do you agree?
